Avidan Ben Giat was born and raised in Jerusalem, Israel, where he received his first education in contemporary dance and ballet.
A graduate of the Jerusalem Academy of Music and Dance high school and the Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design, Jerusalem. In 2008 he joined the Batsheva Dance Company Ensemble where he worked with Ohad Naharin as the artistic director, and Sharon Eyal as the house choreographer. There he began his activity as a choreographer through the “Dancers Create” program of the Company. In 2011 he joined the Inbal Pinto & Avshalom Pollak Dance Company where he performed extensively the company's repertoire. In 2011 he had the opportunity to work also with Ido Batash on a solo piece called “Bread and circuses, blood”.
Throughout the years Avidan created multidisciplinary works in the fields of choreography, dance, video, set & sound design, and produced several co-creation projects:

His works were supported by bodies as MASH Machol Shalem Dance Center, Suzanne Dellal Center, Embassy of Israel in Japan, Mif'al Hapais Council for the Culture and Arts, Israel Ministry of Culture and Sports, Israel Ministry of Foreign Affairs, ZKM (Germany), c.a.t.a.m.o.n dance group in Jerusalem, Sela Foundation, Arts Printing House (Lithuania), Barker Teatteri, the Embassy of Finland in Tel aviv, Regional Dance Center of Western Finland (Finland), Kyoto Art Center, Asahi, Art Support Kansai (Japan).
Parallel to his choreographic work, Avidan continues his activity as a teacher for contemporary, yoga, and improvisation in Israel and abroad.
His students vary from amateurs to professional dancers of all ages. He taught classes and repertoire for companies such as Batsheva Dance Company, Inbal Pinto & Avshalom Pollak Dance Company and for the students of Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design Jerusalem and the high school of the Jerusalem Academy for Music and Dance (Israel), Zodiak, Annantalo, Barker Teatteri (Finland), The Place (England), Session House, ArchiTanz, Association of Universities - Japan, Studio Box169, YouSquare, Flag Studio-Enoco, Conte-Sapporo, Kyoto Art Center (Japan) and more.
These days Avidan works with the choreographer Andrea Costanzo Martini in several productions - "Scarabeo, Angles and the Void" a duet that was selected to be part of Aerowaves, 'Spring Forward twenty18',
"The Constant Mourner" a play by the Israeli writer Hanoch Levin restaged by Ari Folman at the Cameri Theatre, and "A4" a new production due to premiere in Munich, Germany on March 2020, where he will participate both as a dancer and the set designer.
Avidan is also part of the projects “the Jewish Connection Project” by Ido Batash and Lisi Estaras, which was developed at Co-laBo/les ballets C de la B, Ghent (Belgium), and in "Q&A (the 36 questions)" by Rachel Erdos.
Avidan is a certified teacher of Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga.
