AVIDAN BEN GIAT

​Avidan Ben Giat is an independent dancer, choreographer, and designer born and raised in Jerusalem, Israel.

 

He graduated from the Jerusalem Academy of Music and Dance high school and also studied at the Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design. In 2008 he joined the Batsheva Dance Company Ensemble where he worked with Ohad Naharin as the artistic director, and Sharon Eyal as the house choreographer. There he began his way as a choreographer through the “Dancers Create” program of the Company.

In 2011 he joined the Inbal Pinto & Avshalom Pollak Dance Company where he performed extensively in the company's repertoire. ​Avidan worked also with several independent choreographers locally and internationally such as Roy Assaf, Andrea Costanzo Martini, Ido Batash, Lisi Estaras, and Rachel Erdos.

Avidan designed the set for several dance and theatre productions; “PayPerPlay” by Andrea Costanzo Martini, “Birth Preparation Course” by Ori Lenkinski and “One & One” by Zvika & Alina Fishzon

Parallel to his choreographic work, Avidan continues his activity as a teacher for contemporary, yoga, and improvisation in Israel and abroad.

He taught classes and repertoire for companies such as Batsheva Dance Company, Inbal Pinto & Avshalom Pollak Dance Company, Roy Assaf Dance  and for the students of Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design Jerusalem and the highschool of the Jerusalem Academy for Music and Dance (Israel), Zodiak, Annantalo, Barker Teatteri (Finland), The Place (England), Session House, ArchiTanz, Kyoto Art Center (Japan)

and many more.

Throughout the years, Avidan created multidisciplinary works in the fields of choreography, dance, video, set & sound design, and produced several co-creation projects: ‘No Man’s Land’, ‘Diorama’, 'School for the Blind', 'An Empty Chair', 'Planimos', 'BOLMUSE' & 'Sodom'.

His works were supported by bodies such as MASH Machol Shalem Dance Center, Suzanne Dellal Center, Embassy of Israel in Japan, Mif'al Hapais Council for the Culture and Arts, Israel Ministry of Culture and Sports, Israel Ministry of Foreign Affairs, ZKM (Germany), c.a.t.a.m.o.n dance group in Jerusalem, Sela Foundation, Arts Printing House (Lithuania), Barker Teatteri, the Embassy of Finland in Tel aviv, Regional Dance Center of Western Finland (Finland), Kyoto Art Center, Asahi, Japan Ministry of Culture, Art Support Kansai (Japan).
